Choreographer Deborah Slater, in collaboration with playwright Julie Hébert and Rob Bailis/ODC Theater, are developing a production of Nightblooms (working title), a play with movement exploring the inner world of a woman the night before her 60th birthday—looking back and looking ahead—as she faces repercussions of choices made long before. Ultimately, the play is about the paradoxical nature of the deepening of personal awareness and the troubling, ever escalating loss of capacity that comes with aging: the eccentric process of choosing how to live—given the weight of the past and pressures of the future—in a chaotic, paradoxical, all-inclusive present moment. Slater and Hébert will work collaboratively to create the play, weaving together text and movement to integrate the fragmented memories, impulses and revelations that illuminate the central character’s psyche.

Art fair attendees from afar are invited to take part in the thriving and nationally recognized Oakland art scene generated by the artists and galleries behind Oakland Art Murmur. Bay Area locals are encouraged to enjoy some of the region’s most refreshing art and numerous gallery activities on a night other than ever-popular First Fridays.
At least ten galleries within walking distance of one another will open their doors and host special events between the hours of 7 and 10 PM. Participating galleries include Buzz Gallery, Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Hatch Gallery, Johansson Projects, Krowswork, Mercury 20 Gallery, The Moon, PHOTO, Studio Quercus and Vessel Gallery. A short list of special events includes music performances by Kara Alexis Young Project and Goodriddler, Early and Often; artist talks by Lisa Levine and Peter Tonningsen; and wine tasting by Bigvine Wines. Farley’s East cafe is just one of the local businesses offering specials during Murmurama.
Murmurama galleries will collect donations benefiting victims of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami.
We are pleased to announce that our key creators and project leads will be gathering here in San Francisco from all over the planet! Please join us for a Summit to meet, greet and inform about the project, its aspirations and scope. Kiwi and Irish, two of the masterminds of the International Arts Megacrew, will give a brief presentation at 8pm.
Tickets are $50 and include your entry into a raffle with two prizes of Burning Man tickets - one totally complimentary and the other at the artist rate of $150 !! The Do LaB 's reality-expanding 6th annual Lightning in a Bottle Festival.
Building on the success of last year’s event which drew over 7,000 attendees, the four day, three night festival will once again be held on 100 sprawling acres of hills, trees and reservoirs at beautiful Oak Canyon Ranch, located just one hour south of Los Angeles and 45 minutes north of San Diego.
Lightning in a Bottle, which has been described in the press as an enlightened cross between
Coachella and Burning Man, was recently named a recipient of the prestigious European Festival Awards’ Outstanding Greener Festival Award.
Lightning in a Bottle , the one-part electro-tastic, one-part environmentally friendly California music festival, returns for its sixth incarnation May 27-30 on the 100 sprawling acres of hills, trees and reservoirs at Silverado’s Oak Canyon Ranch. Presented by The Do LaB , the festival will look to build on the success of last year’s event — which drew over 7,000 attendees — with a 2011 bill topped by Pretty Lights and a Thievery Corporation DJ set. In addition to the music, this year’s Lightning in a Bottle will also feature green living workshops, providing easy, Do-It-Yourself lessons on creating a healthy, low-cost, sustainable lifestyle, organic food vendors, and yoga and dance classes taught by industry leaders. Plus, there will be large scale art installations, children’s activities, live performance troupes and Lightning in a Paintcan, where local artists transform over- sized mural panels into paintings which are then sold in a silent auction with the proceeds benefiting The Do LaB’s brand new non-profit organization, DoArt Foundation. The Foundation is a social enterprise dedicated to developing artist-audience relationships throughout local and international communities.
One-day, two-day, and three-day passes are now available and can be purchased via the festival’s website .
