1. Youth Programs = GIRLS
2000 / Hunters Point Family http://www.hunterspointfamily.org/home.html
GIRLS 2000 is a holistic program designed
specifically to meet the needs of girls ages 10 through 18 and their
families living in the Hunters Point public housing developments.
The underlying philosophy of the program is that all children can
succeed if they have the proper tools and guidance. In this vein,
every service and activity is designed to provide young women with
exposure and experiences that will give them strength to overcome
obstacles, hope to dream about the future, and confidence to achieve
those dreams. The Hunters Point Family is a grass-roots, community-based,
youth development agency that provides educational, social, and enrichment
programs to youth and their families.
2. Community
Welfare = San Francisco Food Bank
http://www.sffoodbank.org
The SF Food Bank believes that hunger
shouldn't be an option for the 150,000 people in San Francisco who
don't have enough food. They are the critical link between food and
people, providing food to over 133,000 people every year through
over 600 community food programs. Hunger impacts people in all walks
of life, from working families to senior citizens to the homeless.
The SF Food Bank will distribute over 33 million pounds of food this
year to meet an ever-growing need in our community.
3. Art = Peter
Hudson
http://www.hudzo.com/phbio.htm
Peter Hudson is a San Francisco visual artist who channels his technical
and set design experience, childlike curiosity, and creative passion
into life-size stroboscopic zoetropes. In 2000, Peter debuted his
first major installation, Playa Swimmers, at Burning Man, the annual
art festival in the Nevada desert. This led to the large scale, stroboscopic
zoetropes for which Peter has become known, such as Sisyphish, which
depicts strobe-lighted swimmers in motion. In 2007, Peter created
his most ambitious piece, Homouroboros, an interactive zoetrope powered
by bicycles. His work continues to be seen throughout the Bay Area.
